Finding Happiness
Ever find yourself looking for your cellphone then realize you were talking on it the whole time? Or, maybe your glasses only to find that they’ve been on top of your head?
It’s kinda the same with happiness. Happiness is already inside you. Happiness is a base state, it’s not something to look for, it’s already there.
What you are often searching for is freedom from hurt, anger, fear, or some other negative state you’ve put yourself in based on the unmet expectations you’ve placed on the world.
Your thoughts create your pain. Pain simply hides your happiness.
Pain captures your focus and causes you to forget that the rest of the body still works.
Ever smash that pinky toe into the leg of a chair? That overwhelming and attention-seeking pain makes the other 9 toes almost not exist. Then the pain subsides. And you are whole again. Sometimes you laugh because of how silly it felt to react the way you did to what now seems insignificant.
So, if you are in pain, sad, angry, hurt, remember that it’s a feeling layered on top of the happiness at your core.
So the question to ask is not how do you find happiness, but rather... How do you stop the pain? How do you stop the thoughts that create the pain? Or, you can choose to sit with the lessons of the pain and give it time to pass.
