I am a certified professional matchmaker, which might not mean much to most people, so let me explain what a GLI matchmaking certification entails.

Matchmaking is not a regulated industry. This is where the Global Love Institute (GLI), formerly known as the Matchmaking Institute, comes in. Established in 2003, the GLI aims to provide structure to the matchmaking industry, offer resources to professionals, and establish a code of ethics to protect both matchmakers and clients.

The Institute was founded as the only state-licensed matchmaking school in the world. Given that the industry lacks regulation, the GLI plays a crucial role in setting standards and providing guidance for newcomers to the field. Earning a matchmaking certification from GLI adds a layer of credibility, giving matchmakers access to a network of industry professionals and opening doors that might otherwise remain closed.

It's important to note that certification is not required to be considered a bona fide professional matchmaker. Many successful matchmakers have built their reputations on years of hard work and proven track records, serving as their form of certification. However, certification can be incredibly valuable for those new to the industry. It helps establish trust and professionalism, making collaborating with others in the field easier. In an industry where people with varying intentions enter daily, a certification can go a long way in making others feel comfortable working with you.
